Transition from Hand-Pass to Helicopter | Vlog 7 | Learn Hula Hoop Fitness & Dance

In this beginner hula hoop series we have been learning different movements, tricks, and ways to build upon our hoop dancing. Now is the time to start putting these pieces all together, and we can start with learning a transition from the Hand-Pass to the Helicopter Spin! What’s great about this transition is you can really mix it up and create beautiful lines and movement in your dance. Check out how to do this in the video tutorial below!

What to Expect:

In this beginner hula hoop tutorial I will be teaching you how to combine together in a simple transition two movements that we learned earlier in this series, the Hand-Pass and the Helicopter Spin. If you didn’t get a chance to learn these movements individually yet, head on over to my Beginner Series page!

I first review the proper way to get into the helicopter spin (from my previous tutorial). Getting into the spin using the push technique around the thumb is going to be key to being successful in this transition! We will then practice putting both hands into the hoop using the “prayer position”, and switching which hand is in control. Being able to use both hands in your hoop dance is extremely important, always practice switching from right to left in any movements you’re learning.

Once you get down the switching of hands, then I will demonstrate how the actual transition works. If you’re having trouble with getting from helicopter back down to the hand pass, remember that your grip will be switching! Try to loosen your wrists and go with the flow.

Hula hoop dance opens the heart and mind, and gets you moving your body in ways that you may not be used to. To deepen your flexibility, breathing, focus, and become stronger in body and mind you can practice yoga! Yoga Download offers a wide array of classes for all different people and needs. You can take classes right on your computer or smart phone and practice in the comfort of your home.

Yoga is also a great way to stretch out and limber up before practicing hoop. Remember, it’s incredibly important to warm up and stretch to avoid any kind of injury! I also have a stretching flow class that you can utilize for warm up and cool down.

Happy Hooping!
